Protect Yourself from Identity Theft
Many of the credit customers that we have are based on the sad fact that someone has stolen their identity and this can create an extremely horrible situation to get reversed and to get items removed from your credit report that were wrongly put there. If you need help with removing negative items from your credit report then we will be glad to assist you with that!
The danger of being a victim to identity theft is just too great so one really has to be careful. It could lead to unintended debt, court proceedings and even jail time. Remember that once your name has been used to make purchases, to obtain loans, and to do other transactions that may be illegal and criminal in nature, it would be your burden to prove that it was not you who carried out the said transactions.
To protect yourself from falling victim to this crime, you should be aware of how people obtain your personal and financial information. First be careful how you dispose of your credit card bills and bank statements. Some people would go through trash bins so they can get hold of your credit card number and other personal information. To avoid giving away this information, some people would shred such documents.
You should also be careful that your bags or wallets don’t get stolen. They would usually contain important documents, IDs and credit cards. Having possession to these things gives them the power to use these items and the information that is contained there. If they have your credit card, they could easily swipe the card to make purchases using your card. With so much personal information known to them, they may even be able access bank accounts and obtain loans in your name. If your bag contained checkbooks and identification cards, they can easily issue checks and forge your signature from your ID.
Also, be weary of unsolicited accounts and offers from financial institutions. If you get an email or a pop-up message offering you a product, a loan or a promo, do not grab the opportunity right away. Some of the people doing this are just pretending to be from the legitimate institutions. They are only after your personal and financial information so they can use your name in transactions that only they are going to benefit from.
The most difficult to detect and quite sophisticated way of stealing your identity is through the use of special devices which are able to obtain your personal and financial information as your purchase is processed at the store. It is most difficult to avoid so perhaps the best that you can do is just to use your card in establishments that have tighter security.
And then the other way to avoid great losses due to identity theft is by checking your credit report constantly. This way you will be able to dispute incorrect entries right away. If you were a victim of identity theft, the sooner you are able to start tracing the transaction the better chances you have of solving the problem too.
